Rural Missouri in another era

Pleasant Valley School
1933-34
My Dad is in the front row, second from the left. He's wearing the jacket.
One of his brothers is fifth from the left (The smallest boy in overalls)
Another brother is in the second row (his face is shadowed)
Another boy is in the third row in the center (the shortest boy in that row)

This is the same school several years earlier.
My grandmother is one of the girls standing in the back row.
I'm thinking maybe she's fourth from the left.
I believe the lone boy on the right is Clarence, the same on from the picture with his mother on the previous picture. Hmm. Does that mean my Grandfather is in here too??
If so he'd be in the center row. I must ask my Dad.
This is about 1915 or so.

I love seeing these. You said your dad is wearing a jacket, does that make him the first boy in the first row on the left?

I just love how the kids used to dress for school. Compare that to todays kids. Yikes

It's so fun to look at these pictures and wonder what it was like back then. I can't help but wonder if that man (I'm guessing he was a teacher or principal) in the very back is really that mean or if he had to make an extra special effort to hold really still. Or maybe he was all grouchy from trying to get all those kids to hold really still.

I enjoyed seeing these old photos and am reminded that my school photos from ‘way back when’ were in groups like this … before the schools let photographers take individual ‘head shots’ to sell each year. Thanks for sharing.
